Bring a focused history
Write down the main problem, how long it has affected you, prior diagnoses, treatments that helped or failed and any changes that need prompt medical attention. Include medications and supplements; a practitioner cannot assess possible conflicts from an incomplete list. For fertility or pregnancy questions, bring the treating specialist's plan and dates without asking the acupuncture office to replace that specialist.
Ask about the proposed course
Find out why acupuncture is being considered for this particular concern, what benefit is plausible from the evidence and what is uncertain. Ask how many visits are proposed initially, what a reasonable reassessment point is, and which measured change would justify continuing. The answer should separate relief of a symptom from a claim to treat its underlying cause.
Clarify logistics
Confirm who will perform treatment, whether sterile single-use needles are used, whether herbs or homeopathic products are optional, and whether the quoted fee covers the consultation and each visit. Ask about insurance paperwork and the office's cancellation policy. Keep the answers in writing so you can compare care and cost afterward.
Questions and answers
Can I bring questions from my other clinician?
Yes. Coordinated care is especially useful when you have a diagnosis, use medications or are pursuing fertility or pregnancy care.
