Some reports emphasize pregnancy test results or immediate comfort, but live birth is the important outcome for claims that a transfer protocol improves IVF success. ASRM's embryo-transfer guideline says acupuncture performed around transfer does not improve live-birth rates. NCCIH also describes no difference in pregnancy or live birth between acupuncture and sham groups in an IVF review.
Avoid timetable pressure
A practice may offer day-of-transfer appointments, and Acupuncture Associates lists this phase in its IVF support page. That is a service description, not evidence that the appointment is medically required. Ask your fertility clinic whether travel, timing or any procedure would disrupt its transfer instructions. You can decline extra appointments without feeling that you have jeopardized the cycle.
Choose based on your goal
If you want a supportive visit, ask the practitioner to describe the session, cost, safety precautions and communication with your fertility clinician. Keep herbs and supplements separate from the needle discussion because they have different risks. Do not interpret a subsequent outcome as proof that the accessory session caused it.
